Intentional Parenting

In this distracted day and age, it is easy to put parenting on auto-pilot. But we can't afford to do that. We need to be actively engaged in preparing this generation by protecting the innocence of childhood while also preparing them to one day head out on their own.

Here are some of my most popular articles on parenting:

Hip, Hip Hooray! It’s Monsoon Day!

Written by Heather Haupt 2 Comments

We first discovered this delightful little book a few years back and as a result, we love to party on the first monsoon storm or two of the season!  I wrote about our love for it then…  Each year now, the boys request that book.  We reread it and marvel at the beauty of God’s creativity […]

A Wordless Book: Life Made Beautiful…

Written by Heather Haupt 6 Comments

In talking about wordless books, I wanted to revisit a little book we created that is near and dear to my heart.  Making our first ‘heart lesson’ book last spring began a beautiful conversation with my second child which culminated in him turning his dirty heart over to Jesus for a miraculous cleaning a couple of […]

How to Weather a Storm…

Written by Heather Haupt 4 Comments

Boys gather at the front window, eager for that first glimpse of friends. Excited shrieks announce their arrival as I pour our summer batch of sand into the sandbox in the backyard. Not one but TWO grandma’s approach the front door with my friend Amanda’s children. {Remember Amanda? I asked you all to be […]

Xander: “Mommy, can I stay up late tonight?” Before I can respond with a negative, he quickly adds, “I’d like to study the Bible with you.” Rich and I can delay our War Horse movie night.  How could I say no to such a request??? As you can imagine, we had a wonderful time digging […]

Remembering Sendak

Written by Heather Haupt 4 Comments

As we read of the passing of Maurice Sendak, it brought back memories of a post that my mom wrote for an old blog of ours and I thought I would repost it. Makes me want to go upstairs right now and check on my sleeping ‘wild things’ – all four of them! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Imagine-Lit: Where […]

Cultivating Gratitude

Written by Heather Haupt 3 Comments

Expectations… If you don’t clearly communicate what they are (and add some practice role-playing in for the littles) disaster and disappointment can ensue… I’ve had to chase down a certain 3 year old more times than I care to admit because I didn’t clearly communicate before hand proper etiquette at the park. So I’ve made […]

In a fit of mental abstraction, I started a new book AND a grilled cheese at the same time. Shakespeare analysis and cooking do not go hand in hand. 😖😜 #brightestheavenofinvention #peterleithart #shakespeare

The security at the airport said that was the most lemons they had ever seen someone bring thru on a carry on. So excited for homemade strawberry, blueberry, and vanilla lemonade, my husband's specialties!

After several days of gray cold, sunshine beckoned us outside. Actually, they've been working on clearing an area for this fort all week even in the cold. Today is finally warm and 🌞 enough for me to traverse the mesquite forest to join them... #NatureTherapy #everychildoutdoors #momtoo
Instagram post 2233099506281729942_1420023259 You can have a usually tidy home or regularly imaginative children, but seldom do the two simultaneously go hand in hand. She's playing house, raising her children, and informed me she's in the middle of moving... 😯 We can tidy up later... or not... as is evidenced by the hand made basketball hoop still hanging to the side which we ended up incorporating into our space for the time being. But there is peace when we recognize the purpose in their play. #powerofplay #wildandfreechildren #encouragingimagination
Instagram post 2232104592257556739_1420023259 The teen years are such an amazing season of coming into your own, thinking deeply about the world around you as you transition into adulthood. My teens have stepped up to new challenges this year with their education that have really stretched them (and me). Mondayy, my oldest participated in his first debate. This guy has delved deep into Scripture and borrowed books to understand both sides and prep for his debate. All four did a fabulous job thinking these issues through and participating with their assigned position and I love the conversations it has sparked between the four of them as well as in our own home! .

👉👉 Learning to research, learning to reason, and learning to listen to another's arguments are such invaluable skills that will stick with them for the rest of their lives! 👈👈 We are thankful for Worldviews of the Western World curriculum and the Worldview Classes in our area that have provided so much for our homeschool year.
