Wildlife Count and the Slow Demise of a Tomboy

Written by Heather Haupt 2 Comments

Mountain getaways are a time to explore, discover and delight in the myriad of wildlife encounters! A trip to the Tonto Fish Hatchery proved fascinating as we inspected the various species of trout that inhabit Arizona waters.  Are we the only weird one’s left that enjoy reading all of the signs?  Our zoo did away […]

Isn’t It Dangerous?

Written by Heather Haupt 1 Comment

With a great whoop, the boys race up the hill in search of adventure.  They run, dodge, duck, and hide.  They thrive on the undertaking of brave exploits and flirt with any activity including an element of potential danger. As my little caped crusaders traipse about our bit of neighborhood ‘desert’ one suddenly goes sliding down.  Shrieks […]

Our Daily Dose of Science!

Written by Heather Haupt 4 Comments

Monsoon season has a way of luring us outdoors…  The smell of the creosote, the dip in temperature and puddles, puddles everywhere! I think the boys couldn’t be more pleased with the ‘daily outdoors challenge’.  They know that if I’m feeling iffy on going outside that they can just bring this up and hold me accountable! […]

Hip, Hip Hooray! It’s Monsoon Day!

Written by Heather Haupt 2 Comments

We first discovered this delightful little book a few years back and as a result, we love to party on the first monsoon storm or two of the season!  I wrote about our love for it then…  Each year now, the boys request that book.  We reread it and marvel at the beauty of God’s creativity […]

Daily Outdoor Challenge, wk 9

Written by Heather Haupt 5 Comments

We are going into week 9 of our Daily Outdoor Challenge and I’m finding the discipline of this challenge is so good for me… Sometimes I still find myself stuck in the mindset of watching from the inside. Wednesday brought our first monsoon rain of the season.  Since we live here in the desert, rain is a […]

The Daily Outdoors Challenge – Conservation and Safety

Written by Heather Haupt 5 Comments

This is week 8 of the daily outdoors challenge. Any fun time outdoors???? It seems like a nice heat wave is hitting the whole country right now. As the heat picks up and our humidity starts to go over 10% I’m finding daily, intentional time outdoors with my kids isn’t always easy.  In fact, we failed on […]

In a fit of mental abstraction, I started a new book AND a grilled cheese at the same time. Shakespeare analysis and cooking do not go hand in hand. 😖😜 #brightestheavenofinvention #peterleithart #shakespeare

The security at the airport said that was the most lemons they had ever seen someone bring thru on a carry on. So excited for homemade strawberry, blueberry, and vanilla lemonade, my husband's specialties!

After several days of gray cold, sunshine beckoned us outside. Actually, they've been working on clearing an area for this fort all week even in the cold. Today is finally warm and 🌞 enough for me to traverse the mesquite forest to join them... #NatureTherapy #everychildoutdoors #momtoo
Instagram post 2233099506281729942_1420023259 You can have a usually tidy home or regularly imaginative children, but seldom do the two simultaneously go hand in hand. She's playing house, raising her children, and informed me she's in the middle of moving... 😯 We can tidy up later... or not... as is evidenced by the hand made basketball hoop still hanging to the side which we ended up incorporating into our space for the time being. But there is peace when we recognize the purpose in their play. #powerofplay #wildandfreechildren #encouragingimagination
Instagram post 2232104592257556739_1420023259 The teen years are such an amazing season of coming into your own, thinking deeply about the world around you as you transition into adulthood. My teens have stepped up to new challenges this year with their education that have really stretched them (and me). Mondayy, my oldest participated in his first debate. This guy has delved deep into Scripture and borrowed books to understand both sides and prep for his debate. All four did a fabulous job thinking these issues through and participating with their assigned position and I love the conversations it has sparked between the four of them as well as in our own home! .

👉👉 Learning to research, learning to reason, and learning to listen to another's arguments are such invaluable skills that will stick with them for the rest of their lives! 👈👈 We are thankful for Worldviews of the Western World curriculum and the Worldview Classes in our area that have provided so much for our homeschool year.
