Good News Relay

Written by Heather Haupt 3 Comments

Have a "Good News" relay race for some active St. Patrick's Day fun!The kids are super excited that their cousins will be making their way from cold Michigan out to sunny Arizona.  We are excitedly preparing for their arrival.  With St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday, I thought it would be fun to pull out our favorite Tomie dePaola book on this man and then have some great hands-on fun.

He passionately spread the love of Jesus all across Ireland.  So what better way to celebrate than to imitate St. Patrick in spreading the good news of God’s love for us with a relay race and passing on the ‘message’!

We made another baton since the one pictured above was from several years ago.  Luckily I had a paper towel tube.  We set about tracing and cutting out shamrocks and then placing them on packing tape and securing them to our baton.

And then of course, we had to set out and give it a good practice run.  It took the boys a couple of times to remember to speak the briefly speak the message in addition to merely handing off the baton.  But I think we’ll have it down by Sunday… We’ve been talking a lot about the Good News over here and the boys had fun brainstorming who they could share the love of Jesus with in real life.

Now I just need to go through all those St. Patrick’s Day art projects I’ve pinned and pick one…

Have a wonderful weekend and may the Good News go forth in your lives and touch those around you!

Enjoy the time with your family! It is cold in MI, but not as cold as it has been. The birds are even chirping!!!
On an unrelated note: If you could tell me what kind of camera and lens (and photo editing program?) you have, that would be super. I have a Canon EOS Rebel T3i and haven’t bought another lens yet, but I’m thinking that in order to get crisper pictures, I may need to invest.

I have a Nikon D40 and most often just use a 35mm prime lens. It is more feet work, but I love how crips the pictures are and its performance in lower light conditions. I’m not sure what an equivalent would be with Canon. I’m embarassed to say that I have Photoshop Elements, but have not taken the time to figure it out yet… I’m still using Corel Paint Shop if I do any post work. I’ve also played with my camera settings since I like slightly more saturated look.

Instagram post 2233099506281729942_1420023259 You can have a usually tidy home or regularly imaginative children, but seldom do the two simultaneously go hand in hand. She's playing house, raising her children, and informed me she's in the middle of moving... 😯 We can tidy up later... or not... as is evidenced by the hand made basketball hoop still hanging to the side which we ended up incorporating into our space for the time being. But there is peace when we recognize the purpose in their play. #powerofplay #wildandfreechildren #encouragingimagination
Instagram post 2232104592257556739_1420023259 The teen years are such an amazing season of coming into your own, thinking deeply about the world around you as you transition into adulthood. My teens have stepped up to new challenges this year with their education that have really stretched them (and me). Mondayy, my oldest participated in his first debate. This guy has delved deep into Scripture and borrowed books to understand both sides and prep for his debate. All four did a fabulous job thinking these issues through and participating with their assigned position and I love the conversations it has sparked between the four of them as well as in our own home! .

👉👉 Learning to research, learning to reason, and learning to listen to another's arguments are such invaluable skills that will stick with them for the rest of their lives! 👈👈 We are thankful for Worldviews of the Western World curriculum and the Worldview Classes in our area that have provided so much for our homeschool year.
